The Saturday Email ("we", "us", or "our") operates the saturdayemail.com website and meal planning service. This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our service and the choices you have associated with that data.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information: When you sign up, we collect your email address, name, household size, age range, and preferences (diet, cuisines, budget, allergies, health goals).

Receipt Photos: When you reply to emails with receipt photos to track your spending, we extract the data (store, items, prices) and then permanently delete the photo. We store only the extracted data, not the image.

Usage Data: We track which features you use, when you sign up, when you cancel, and when you reply to emails. This helps us improve the service.

Payment Information: Payment processing is handled by Stripe. We never store your full card details. Stripe may retain limited payment information per their privacy policy.

Error Logs: If something breaks, we collect error messages and system logs to fix it. These logs are kept private and deleted after 90 days.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Generate your personalized meal plans
  • Send you weekly emails with meals, shopping lists, and prep steps
  • Track your spending and waste to improve future plans
  • Respond to your feedback and support requests
  • Improve the service and fix bugs
  • Process payments (via Stripe)
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not:

  • Sell your data to advertisers or third parties
  • Use your health information for anything other than meal planning
  • Share your email with anyone except to send our service emails
  • Use receipt photos after extracting data (they're deleted)

4. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored in Supabase (a secure cloud database). We use:

  • Encrypted connections (HTTPS/SSL)
  • Automatic daily backups
  • Role-based access control
  • No public access to your data

While we take security seriously, no system is 100% secure. Please use a strong, unique password.

5. Your Rights & Data Control

Access: You can see all your data anytime by logging into your dashboard.

Export: You can request a download of all your data in CSV format. Email hello@saturdayemail.com.

Delete: You can cancel your account anytime. Cancellation deletes all your data immediately except where legally required to keep it (e.g., for accounting).

Correct: You can update your information anytime on the preferences page.

Forget Health Info: You can reply to any email with "forget my health info" and we'll delete your health goals permanently.

6. Third-Party Services

We use third parties to deliver our service:

These services are bound by their own privacy policies. We only share the minimum data needed (e.g., your email to Resend for sending emails).

7. Cookies & Tracking

We use minimal cookies:

  • Session Cookie: Keeps you logged in (required for the app to work)
  • No tracking cookies: We don't use Google Analytics or other trackers
  • No ads: We don't show ads or use advertising platforms

8. International Users & GDPR

If you're in the EU, you have additional rights under GDPR. You can:

  • Request a copy of your data (Data Portability)
  • Object to processing
  • Request deletion ("Right to be Forgotten")
  • Lodge a complaint with your data protection authority

9. Data Retention

We keep your data as long as your account is active. When you cancel:

  • All meal plans, preferences, receipts: Deleted immediately
  • Email address: Kept for 1 year (in case you re-subscribe)
  • Payment records: Kept for 7 years (required for tax/accounting)
  • Error logs: Deleted after 90 days

10. Children's Privacy

Our service is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If we become aware that a child under 13 has created an account, we will delete it immediately.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy occasionally. We'll notify you by email if there are material changes. Your continued use of the service after changes means you accept the new policy.
